Addington Manor

Addington Manor was the backdrop for the Summer 2011 British Dressage Summer Nationals and Spencer’s up and coming team of dressage horses arrived primed and ready for the competition.

Zambucca proved he has continued to learn and progress in this sport being consistent throughout the competition and gaining 2nd place in the Medium finals with only a few minor errors and 10th place in the Advanced Medium class. Spencer was thrilled with this result and Zambucca has certainly earned his mini-break prior to spending a few days at stud having semen collected.

Dougie achieved 8th place in the Advanced Medium class, which was great considering he did suffer from a little stage fright due to the close proximity of the audience. He too will have a short break in the sun.

Both horses have qualified for the Winter Regional’s and so will spend the autumn and winter in training.

3rd September - Moreton In Marsh Show

Jay entered Neil O’Hara’s “Kellis Town Cavalier” into the Discovery class and had a very satisfying round, great for his first time out!

Lara Pinder’s “Bad Boy “ produced a double clear and came 6th in the newcomers, which was a super result for this young horse.

“Who Boy” continues to be consistent and won the Foxhunter jumping clearing the first round of 1m30, what a result! He continues to improve, Jay is thrilled with his consistency.

But...

The Best Victory goes to Rachel Hart’s “VIP”

The Six Bar Competition of which Jay has never done before, was in the main ring and Jay and VIP went on to be joint winners with the last bar standing at a WHOPPING 1m 75!!

Jay’s definitely got his eye back and what a result for only his third show on this horse – Hicksted look out the Halim boys are on form.

Coming Soon – Great training article with Jay in “Your Horse Magazine”

31st August – Happy Hunters

Team Halim/Wilton were out in force and took both Advanced Medium classes. Jay was riding Jen Goodman’s Broadlands Rossini, this was the 4th time Jay had ridden Ross but the judge loved ‘em and awarded them with 72.5% - Winner Jay also managed to qualify Ross for the Winter Regionals with a respectable 65.5%.

Spencer went on to win the other Advanced Medium classes with Dougie and Zamboucca scoring a respectable 70% and placing them in 2nd!!!

A great day as always at Hunters!

Bonnie Blair

After a long drive with A-Class, super Emma and Jay arrived in the rain and continued to get wet for the next 3 days!

Dressage Day – Clive still managed to produce a reasonable test, he had a little wobble at the end of one of the extensions but he still gained a competitive mark.

XC – Wet and undulating ground, at least it didn’t rain! The track was up to height but not too technical. They finished well and full of running, in fact both horse and rider had the best heart rate at the end of the course, they remained competitive in the class.

SJ- The warm up was a bit boggy and poor ole Clive lost a little confidence however, he listened to his jockey and managed to hold it together and only had two poles down.

They went onto finish 9th which is a great result and a great achievement and to top it off they also have now got their 4* qualification MARVELLOUS! Now aiming for Pau in Oct.

“Who Boy” hitched a lift in the lorry and did a bit of BSJA in Whilst, Scotland. It was his first time jumping out of Mud! He did very well and came 4th in the 1m25 and qualified for the Blair Championship in which he ended being 2nd!!!!! Go Boycee!!

10th August

Master Eli took a trip with Jay to Hartpury BYEH. It was a great day with Eli going extremely well to produce a very pleasing test and a good round at show jumping. Sadly the marks did not reflect his achievement, but hey, you win some you loose some. Jay is happy that Master Eli has got some good experience under his belt and now deserves his shoes off and a holiday in the field for the next 3 months – Well Done Master Eli

Showjumping Successes’

As if the eventing and dressage schedule was not busy enough Jay has also been doing a bit of BSJA with Jen Goodman’s  “Who Boy” (Boyce), who has spent the last year working consistently on the flat with Jen and Spencer, Jay decided to resurrect his earlier SJ career and Oh My, what a result! He has managed to clock up numerous wins and has been winning upto 1m25 – What a good Boyceeee!

Jay has also picked up 2 further rides on the BSJA circuit, riding for Lara Pinder on her own “Bad Boy” a Dutch Warmblood and Rachel Hart on her Grade A show jumper from Belgium “VIP”.

Both horses have picked up some placing’s with their new pilot and the combinations are proving to be successful – Watch This Space J

August 2011

Zamboucca went back to Addington and continues to be consistent.  This was his first time doing this particular test, which has lots of changes. The boy flew through them all! He went on to score a very respectable 70.53% to finish 2nd and qualify for the Advanced Medium final at the Championship, Spencer is over the moon and to top it off Dougie has a wild card!!! Sun is shining on team Halim Wilton!

Glorious Gatcombe

Master Eli opted not to perform his rodeo demonstration this time and worked like a champion. He was a little tight in the dressage but jumped well. He didn’t catch the judges eye this time but it’s still a great experience and education for this young horse.

Black Drum, British Open - This was the first time for the partnership to do the International 3*test and they produced a good test but the jockey managed to ride a poor flying change and the walk was not as good as the walk they produced at Barbary. Jockey was given a stern talking to from Chief Coach Spencer! The SJ which is always testing at Gatcome did not bode well, Clive rolled every warm up fence! However, Clive regrouped and tucked his feet up and only had one pole down – Well Done Clive!  Onto the XC, finding a rhythm was proving difficult but they went direct at all the combinations with Jay keeping Blair in mind and the required 4* qualification. This was a great test of fitness and to finish in the top 20 everyone is happy.

British Dressage – Regionals!

Zamboucca was on FIRE! He was truly amazing, answered all the questions and won with a Whopping 73.3%, bring on the finals baby!

Dougie – Due to pilot errors made a wee whoopsie in the changes and the pilot also manages to miss the last centre line and sadly didn’t get top place, cross ya fingers for a wild card!!

22nd July 2011 - Aston Le Walls – Advanced

Clive (Black Drum) and Jay went for a night away together.  Clive was very naughty in the dressage and felt like a fresh 5 year old however he still managed to score 35.7% !!  After a good nights sleep onto SJ. Clive produce an excellent round despite the wet conditions, the best yet in the way he felt during the round and they were unlucky to roll two poles.  The XC has been beefed up and the track was big, however Jay opted for all the direct routes causing Clive no problems at all, a great confidence booster. Next stop British Open!!!

July 14th 2011 - Addington – Double Champions!

Spencer decided to embark out of the area and give the boys a new experience at a different facility and what better place than Addington Manor Equestrian Ctr.

Zamboucca was competing in his last Medium class and had a marvellous score of 72.43% - WINNER

Dougie followed in style to produce an equally super test to score a whopping winning 74.21% !!!

This was a rewarding day and both boys tried really hard and continue to improve from show to show.

July 7th / 8th 2011 - Beautiful Barbary!

Master Eli was competing in his first BYEH and apart from the rodeo demonstration in the lorry park, which was just to ensure Jay was on the ball, Master Eli behaved perfectly!  He gained top marks for the dressage and good marks for jumping, overall he came 5th, this is a super start to his eventing career.

Black Drum was competing in his first big test of the season, he scored 58% for the dressage, which, was a very pleasing test, however, homework is required on the changes and accuracy but hey not a bad start!  On to the show jumping of which Barbary is always renowned for being up to height: Jay has always been concerned that this would not be Clive’s (Black Drum’s) strong point but he produced a good round and only picked up 4 faults – phew! On to the XC, running towards the end of the class Jay took it easy and had a lovely ride, great experience – Brilliant Day!

25 June 2011

The first run for Jay and Black Drum at Salperton Park. Salperton Park proved to be a super event for this new partnership .  Overall Jay was very happy with the results scoring a respectable 35.5% for the dressage, clear show jumping and a steady confident clear XC within which Jay opted for all the direct routes with the upcoming challenge of Barbary in Jay’s mind.  This was a super day out for the whole team.
